CELEBRATING A DECADE OF YOUTH-LED DESIGN ‘X’-CELLENCE
This year, we celebrate ten years! Ten years of innovation, community, creativity, empowerment, and breaking barriers for youth. The vision of one Brownsville native’s idea to screen-print on shirts turned into a vital organization changing the landscape of STEAM professions. It took true intention and a vision led with the needs of underestimated youth first, followed by the unwavering belief in our vision from supporters like you and a team of talented professionals. Please help us see ten more years, reach ten more youth, develop ten more design cohorts—or even have ten more locations one day—by purchasing a ticket to our fundraiser. YDC has serve 924 young people across 30+ programs and studios. 130 portfolios created. $215K in revenue earned by freelance alumni through our youth-led creative agency. Alumni go on to earn an average of $74K as junior designers, marketing managers, software engineers and civic engineers. Join us in this work as we celebrate closing the inexperience gap for deserving and talented youth.
Your ticket purchase and or sponsorship to this fundraiser will help us to:
- Accommodate more youth and practice social distancing guidelines in a 3,200-square-foot maker space and innovation hub.
- Outfit our new space with state-of-the-art technology for young people to utilize toward growing their STEAM skills.
- Increase our number of annual program offerings, including plans to offer six installments of the Creative Apprenticeship Program (CAP) serving 120 youth.
Youth Design Center (YDC) is an award-winning youth-led non-profit creative agency and innovation hub—the first of its kind in East Brooklyn. We provide gateways for young people to learn marketable design and tech skills, access postsecondary education, achieve economic mobility, and engage in place-based community revitalization.
